The Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series is thrilled to celebrate a decade of extraordinary music with our upcoming Surf and Sounds Chamber Music Series. For our 10th anniversary, we are honored to present a series of special performances featuring acclaimed tenor Tshombe Selby alongside the Surf and Sounds Piano Quintet.

From his roots in Manteo, North Carolina, Tshombe Selby has risen to the heights of the Metropolitan Opera stage in New York. With a career that has spanned the globe, Tshombe returns to Dare County to delight us with his incredible talent in two exceptional concerts.

About the artists:

Jake Fowler, Music Director, Cello
Jake Fowler, founder of the Surf and Sounds Chamber Music Series, has built an impressive career that includes tenures with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and international tours with the Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra.

Katie Hyun, violin
Katie Hyun, winner of the 2016 Astral Artists National Auditions, is known for her versatility and passion for social justice through music. She is the founder and director of Quodlibet Ensemble.

Siwoo Kim, violin
Described by The New York Times as “incisive” and “compelling,” Siwoo Kim is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician, and co-founder of the VIVO Music Festival.

Luke Fleming, viola
Luke Fleming, praised by The Philadelphia Inquirer for his “glowing sophistication,” is the founder and artistic director of the Manhattan Chamber Players and the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival.

Dr. Amanda Halstead, piano
Dr. Amanda Halstead is an active soloist and chamber musician, working with prestigious ensembles such as the National Symphony and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. She is also a dedicated music educator.

The Bryan Cultural Series is a non-profit organization founded in 2012. Its board of directors consists of nine community leaders who are committed to providing a range of high-quality cultural events.
