Cody Rhodes ‘hated’ The Young Bucks’ reminder of his contract with AEW

Cody Rhodes has revealed he “hated” the way The Young Bucks portrayed him when reflecting on the founding of All Elite Wrestling in their memoir, Killing the Business: From Backyards to the Big Leagues.

Cody said the following in an interview with Chris Van Vliet about Insight:

“I hated that in The Young Bucks book they said I was the last to sign. Because that’s a big deal. Some of the defenders of AEW don’t realize that they turn people off from their product more than they turn them on, that’s one of the things people always bring up: ‘Oh, he was last, he wasn’t that big of a deal for the origin.’ No, this guy over here that’s off-screen was the first person Tony ever met and he met him in a screening process for all of us. So yeah, I think I was the last and yeah, I had other thoughts and it’s not at all incorrect what they said (that I was physically the last person to sign). Yeah, it’s not incorrect, but I was just as involved in it as anyone. That’s one little thing I can say when I write my book (the story).”

AEW’s version of the Young Bucks portrays Cody as the last member of The Elite to sign with All Elite Wrestling prior to the company’s official launch in January 2019. The memoir suggests that Rhodes changed his mind on a number of occasions as he tried to decide between AEW, staying with Ring of Hoor, or returning to WWE.

Before Cody decided what to do, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega had already decided to form AEW, while Hangman Page and SCU were also open to simply following the Jackson brothers and Omega wherever they ended up.

Rhodes, of course, eventually signed with All Elite Wrestling and founded the promotion in January 2019 with the rest of The Elite and Tony Khan. He served as an AEW EVP until his departure in February 2022.

Cody then returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and has established himself as the company’s top babyface. He is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion.

Since his departure, Rhodes and the Young Bucks have become closer than ever.
