Daily show Dark tonight; Desi Lydic hosts from Tuesday to Thursday

First on LateNighter: With The Daily Show tonight off for the holidays, viewers will have to wait another week for Jon Stewart’s next turn behind the anchor desk.

The Comedy Central series returns Tuesday nights with Desi Lydic hosting for the rest of the week. Her guests for the week will be announced on Tuesday.

Jon Stewart’s return to the show as Monday night host this season was hands down the biggest late night story this year. The comic returned to the show in February, seemingly without missing a beat, and last month delivered the show its biggest audience since 2017.

Ratings are up even on nights when Stewart isn’t present, with senior members of the ‘Best F*cking News Team’ taking turns hosting from Tuesday to Thursday most weeks.

Stewart’s future with The Daily Show is uncertain. Officially, he is only attached to the show “through the election,” but in interviews he has hinted that he is at least considering staying on, noting that his second term has left him feeling “reinvigorated” datum.

He repeated that backstage at last month’s Emmy Awards, where the long-running Comedy Central program took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Series. “We’re having a good time,” he told reporters, as showrunner Jen Flanz jokingly offered the possibility that Stewart would be forced to stay as the election continues “recount after recount after recount.”

“We’re looking forward to it being terrible,” Stewart added.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11:00 PM on Comedy Central and streams the next day on Paramount+.
