Dolphins estimate ‘significant damage’ to Hard Rock Stadium after football debacle

Hard Rock Stadium suffered “significant damage” on Sunday evening following a security breach ahead of the Copa America final in Miami.

The dolphins are still assessing the extent of vandalism to the stadium, Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel defeated.

A statement from Hard Rock Stadium officials said unruly fans “fought with police officers, tore down walls and barricades and vandalized the stadium, causing significant damage to the property.”

Photos of the entrance to the ’72 Club, the stadium’s premium seating area, show an escalator destroyed and covered in glass and debris. It is not publicly known what other parts of the stadium were damaged or how much damage was done.

Depending on what the authorities find, the stadium may require a structural assessment.

The next event at the stadium is the Dolphins’ training camp on August 3.

Fans without tickets stormed the Colombia vs. Argentina opener, causing an 82-minute delay to the start of the match. Other fans were seen in video and photos crawling through a ventilation system to reach their seats.
