Flashback: Jalen Chaster Sets Personal-Best Assist Totals in Third Year

Colorado Mammoth Press Release

DENVER – Jalen Chaster has been one of the team’s younger defenders over the past few seasons, but he’s flown somewhat under the radar as he continues to see more playing time and expands his skill set as a whole.

With a career-high seven assists among his eight points (1g, 7a) and his personal best point total of the 2022-23 season, Chaster has once again been a presence in Colorado’s transition game. With cheetah-like speed and an advanced set of silky mitts in play as he charges from end to end, Chaster is more often than not given the green light to push the pace by head coach Pat Coyle (who also coached Chaster during his time with the Jr. A Coquitlam Adanacs).

And unless an odd opportunity presents itself, he doesn’t shy away from taking the occasional dip in the O-zone.

Chaster, who has been better finished on the defensive end most nights, managed a career-best four-point performance (1g, 3a) in a late-season showdown against the Philadelphia Wings on April 12, showing off his legs. He reminds fans with glimpses of Joey Cupido- and Jordan Gilles-like speed, and is also one of the team’s most agile and quick-moving defenders in any given 5-on-5 set.

Chaster knows that big guys like Warren Jeffrey, Brett Craig, Robert Hope and others attract the bigger opponents and continues to recruit and excel against older, but still productive players like Curtis Dickson, Dane Dobbie and others.

The Coquitlam, BC native has added 64 loose balls, nine caused turnovers and eight blocked shots while collecting just nine penalty minutes in 15 regular season appearances. He’ll be looking to continue his productive season when the team returns to action at the LOUD HOUSE this winter!

Mammoth fans can follow coloradomammoth.com and Colorado Mammoth social media throughout the summer as the team continues to shape its roster for the upcoming 2024-25 NLL season.

And with the 2024 NLL Entry Draft quickly approaching this fall, there are plenty of reasons to stay tuned to the burgundy and black team!
