Kenya Under-20 Rugby Team Announced for Deciding Match Against Hong Kong China

The Kenya national under-20 rugby team, Chipu, have announced their squad for the 7th place decider against Hong Kong, China in the 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy.

The match will take place on Wednesday 17th July at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. Kick-off is at 13:45 EAT.

The starting line-up sees two position changes: Andycole Omolo moves from the back row to lock, while Elvis Otete moves from the left flank to the right flank.

In addition, Nathan Tsindoli, Eugene Ojiambo and Daniel Kipchirchir have been promoted from the bench to the starting 15. Willy Tino, who last appeared on the first matchday, returns to start from the bench. Dennis Ndayala, who is making his first appearance in this tournament, will also start from the bench.

Due to injuries, Michael Wamalwa, Faran Juma, Clein Okumbi, Daniel Kiptoo and Alvin Khavoli will not be able to participate in this match.

This meeting will be the second meeting between the two teams, the first being in July 2023 when Kenya hosted the U20 Trophy. In that first match on 25 July 2023, Chipu triumphed with a score of 22-16.

Hong Kong (China) has had a tough tournament in the run-up to these decisive play-offs and has lost all group matches.

On the first day they were defeated 20-105 by Japan, then lost 0-101 to hosts Scotland on the second day and 19-39 to Samoa on the third day.

Chipu has faced similar challenges, losing 25-7 to Uruguay, 51-3 to the Netherlands and 17-30 to the USA.
