Novak Djokovic equals undeserved streak after defeat at Wimbledon 2024

Legendary Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has matched an undeserved winning streak in 2024. The 37-year-old, often regarded as the best player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open Era in the singles category, has won a staggering 24 Grand Slam titles.
On Sunday, Djokovic suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Wimbledon final against young Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. The result was an undeserved run for the former world number one to not win a title in the first seven months of a season. The last time something like that happened was in 2005.

But despite that result, Djokovic hopes his performance at the mega-event will give him the much-needed confidence to win big in the months ahead. The Belgrade-born star has endured a difficult campaign, failing to even qualify for the final of an event before Wimbledon. Those results seem even more astonishing when you consider that Djokovic has looked unstoppable in 2023, winning three of the four Grand Slams, with his only major defeat coming at Wimbledon, where he lost to Alcaraz in a five-set thriller in the final of the mega-event.

Djokovic’s best performance until Sunday came this year at the Australian Open, where he lost to current world number one, Italian Jannik Sinner, in a four-setter match. Things went from bad to worse in June when Djokovic suffered a knee injury at the French Open, forcing him to withdraw from the competition just before the start of the quarterfinals against Norwegian Casper Ruud. After the injury, Djokovic underwent knee surgery, casting doubt on his participation in mega events such as Wimbledon and the Summer Olympics. The mega event will be played from July 26 to August 9 in the French capital Paris.

Every time I walk onto Centre Court I am filled with so much gratitude that I am living my childhood dream. Thanks to my entire team, partners, family, friends and #nolefam for all your support over the past few weeks. Go ahead. Congratulations, @carlosalcaraz. Good…
