San Jose Sharks extend Brandon Coe’s contract for one year, two-way deal

The San Jose Sharks announced Monday that they have signed restricted free agent right winger Brandon Coe to a new one-year contract for the 2024-25 season.

Coe, 22, is a 6-foot-5 forward who spent last season with the San Jose Barracudas of the American Hockey League. Coe produced a career-high 12 goals and 17 points in 57 games, also adding 43 minutes in penalties. It was his second professional season, and he has progressed on both sides of the puck. Coe was originally a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Sharks, 98th overall.

The Ajax, ON native is looking to build on his career season and propel himself up the Sharks organizational depth chart. It was his second full year as a professional after spending four seasons with the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League.

Throughout his junior years, Coe was an offensive force, including his overage year when he was named the OHL’s Overage Player of the Year in 2021-22. He was also named to the OHL’s First All-Star team that same season after collecting 34 goals and 67 assists. Throughout his junior career, Coe scored 86 goals and 218 points in 250 games.

Coe has played 130 AHL games to date, scoring 18 goals and 20 assists, and hopes to take the next step next season.

The Sharks continue to rebuild after an NHL-worst 19-54-9 record last season. General manager Mike Grier has been busy this offseason emphasizing drafting and development while also assembling a productive roster for the 2024-25 season. After selecting Macklin Celebrini first overall and Sam Dickinson 14th overall, Grier signed veteran forwards Tyler Toffoli and Alex Wennberg to multi-year deals.

After Coe signs the contract, Grier still expects to have $14.6 million in salary cap space before training camp in September.
