Spanish Football Federation president Pedro Rocha has been suspended for two years for a “very serious breach” of his authority.

Rocha only claimed the role in April after being handpicked by Luis Rubiales, who resigned in September after kissing Spanish star Jenni Hermoso following their Women’s World Cup victory.

Rocha originally served as the country’s interim president following the scandal, before taking on the full-time role. A statement from the Spanish FA (RFEF) at the time said: “Pedro Rocha has today been proclaimed the new president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, after receiving the support of the majority of members of the assembly of this institution that governs Spanish football.

“The process followed the procedure agreed upon by the Electoral Commission, which met this morning, and the timetable set for these elections.”

Rocha’s sole mandate in that role was to organize elections to find a new president. But he made decisions beyond his control – calling for the dismissal of former Secretary General Andreu Camps, one of those under intense scrutiny.

And Rocha has now been suspended by Spain’s Supreme Court of Sport (TAD) for overstepping his powers. He has also been fined €16,527.84 for two further offences.

The TAD ruled that Camps’ dismissal was an “abuse of his authority” as the RFEF management committee had not been consulted before the decision was taken. Rocha also failed to consult the committee on two further appeals, leading to the two additional fines.
