Stefanos Tsitsipas hurls strong words at the referee and wishes him to lose his job

Stefanos Tsitsipas got into a tense exchange with Fergus Murphy during a Shanghai Masters match against Daniil Medvedev, when the Greek directed some strong words at the chair umpire before wishing to his face that he should be fired from the ATP Tour.

On Tuesday, the two-time Grand Slam finalist and the fifth-seeded Russian were in the middle of a very fierce battle. After losing the first set via tiebreak, the Greek collected an early break in the second set.

But with a 2-1 lead and 15-30 against his serve, Tsitsipas was warned for a time violation.

“Why are you doing this to me, man? I’m the best in this area on tour, the most consistent player in this area on tour,” the former world number 3 said after approaching Murphy. The referee replied: ‘The clock starts automatically, just listen. It can help if you listen. . The clock runs automatically. I have no control over that.”

Tsitsipas rips Murphy: You have no idea, I hope you get fired!

After expressing his frustration that the referees have been against him of late, the 26-year-old was told by Murphy that it “wasn’t a correct statement” and that he was “too slow”, which led to the foul.

“You have no idea about tennis, it seems,” they said to the referee.

After stating that Murphy had never played in his life, the Greek was told this was not true.

“You definitely don’t have cardio. You probably serve and volley all the time. Tennis is a physical sport. We need time there. Show some compassion. We don’t throw darts here,” said the 2023 Australian Open finalist.

After the incident, Tsitsipas was broken back in that fourth game, losing in straight sets, while Medvedev claimed a 7-6 (3) 6-3 win.

As he left the court, the current world number 12 blamed only one person for his defeat.

“I hope you get fired. I really wish it,” Tsitsipas told Murphy.
