“Where You Belong” initiative celebrates National Parks and Recreation Month

July is National Park and Recreation Month. Montgomery County Recreation is participating in a month-long celebration of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) initiative.

This year’s theme, Where You Belong, honors how parks and recreation professionals can create a sense of belonging in communities across the country. The county will also celebrate National Park and Recreation Professionals Day on July 19.

“National Park and Recreation Month is a time for us to recognize and celebrate the vital role our parks and recreation programs play in fostering a sense of community and belonging,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “Our recreation team works tirelessly to provide inclusive and diverse opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

Montgomery County Recreation has published a list of recommended activities for interested residents to get in touch with parks and programs. These include a Friday night visit to Teens Night Out at the Upper County Community Recreation Center or a game of indoor soccer for the youth at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center.

“I encourage everyone to participate in the various activities and events planned for July and to appreciate the hard work of our dedicated recreation professionals,” Elrich said. “This month is not just about enjoying our parks and programs, but also about recognizing the spaces and services that make Montgomery County a place where everyone truly belongs.”
